In June 2026, we finally brought The Coliving Spain Project to the Balearics. It wasn’t something we had intentionally been seeking out, but it was definitely something we were excited about, as we hadn’t yet had the chance to experience this part of Spain through the lens of coliving.
This happened because we came across a very interesting concept that had opened just a few weeks before we connected with its founder, Irene.
Irene opened Laberint Coliving in the heart of Palma de Mallorca in May 2026, welcoming its first colivers shortly after June began.
A few things immediately caught our attention about this new space – Irene’s vision and energy, the fact that it would be the first residential coliving featured in our project, the novelty of both the concept and the space, the intentionally small community, and, of course, the location.
Launching a residential coliving in the middle of the high tourist season, in one of Spain’s most sought-after destinations, while offering an alternative to mass tourism and a type of stay that hadn’t really been available to non-tourist travelers before, seemed like a unique, ambitious, and challenging idea that we were curious to learn more about.

Today, after spending a month with Laberint’s community, collaborating closely with Irene, exploring Mallorca, and experiencing the balance of life, work, and adventure that Laberint offers, we’re leaving with incredible memories, valuable insights, and an exclusive look into this unique space and community.
You’ll love this one if you want to experience Mallorca differently, avoiding the tourist traps and discovering the island’s culture in a more meaningful way. But also if you’re simply looking to slow down, wherever you are in life, and incorporate a coliving community into your own rhythm, rather than shaping your life around the coliving experience.
Laberint offers a calm place to live as you would in your own home, while giving you the richness of coliving through an intimate, carefully selected community and thoughtfully curated, locally driven experiences.
What makes Laberint different?
When Irene decided to create Laberint, she wanted to build a space where people would come together around shared values. Her vision was an international community with a strong local focus, one where people actively live with one another, share experiences, and build meaningful connections, while still enjoying a high level of privacy, calmness, and personal routine.
At the heart of Laberint lies a balance between well-being, proactivity, and living life with a little more intention.

Irene’s own experience of traveling the world and always seeking out local, authentic ways of discovering new places naturally shaped the concept. The result is a very honest and transparent idea for the island she loves most.
Before we dive into the house itself, it’s worth understanding the person behind it, because Laberint feels, in many ways, like an extension of Irene herself.
As a symbol, a labyrinth is often seen as a place where people lose themselves. Irene sees it differently. For her, it’s a place where you wander with curiosity, take unexpected turns, and eventually discover something new at the center – whether that’s a place, a person, or a part of yourself. And that’s exactly what Laberint Coliving is about.

Location
You will find Laberint Coliving situated in the island’s capital, Palma de Mallorca, in a very local, well-connected, typical Spanish neighborhood, just about a 30-minute walk to the city beach,10 minutes from the city center, and surrounded by everything you should need.
While Palma is an incredibly popular destination, anyone who comes to Mallorca will probably tell you the same thing: visit the island as a whole. Don’t just go to Palma, or to this town, or that one – come here with the intention of discovering Mallorca beyond the obvious, from tiny coves to tall mountain peaks; from orange beach bars to cobblestone towns, and from pink sunsets to blue sea horizons.
And Laberint stands by this philosophy. So, how come it is located in such a central area like Palma?

The location is both intentional and a natural convenience. Irene grew up in what is now Laberint – it’s the city, the neighborhood, and the area she knows like the back of her hand, and she decided to open her childhood home to others. With her family home, the opportunity to create a coliving space right in the heart of it was there, and it made sense to take it.
But it’s also a strategic, intentional decision that perfectly fits the needs of a coliving space meant to show you the beauties of Mallorca. Palma offers a large enough international community to land in, while also serving as an ideal base for traveling across the island. It is a proper city with amenities that don’t lack, and a good enough infrastructure so you don’t miss all the charming, small villages and tiny secret beaches.
After spending just over a month here ourselves, we’d now argue that Palma is the best place to stay while exploring Mallorca, of course, as long as you actually take the exploration seriously and get yourself out on the road.
So, in all its senses, Laberint’s location actually emphasizes what Laberint is supposed to be – a home base and a landing pad during your temporary settlement on this gorgeous Mediterranean island.
Space & Design
Irene’s philosophy of balancing life, work, and well-being is perhaps most visible in Laberint’s design. The space reflects the same values the community does: simplicity without feeling plain, comfort without excess, and luxury without flashiness. Rich earthy tones, warm wood, and natural textures create an atmosphere that feels both elevated and deeply welcoming.
Every corner of the home is designed to support this philosophy, creating a space that feels homey yet high-end and is perfectly suited for comfortable, longer stays.
It probably isn’t a coincidence that Irene’s sister is an interior designer.
As a self-proclaimed perfectionist, Irene wanted to create a space that looked beautiful, felt smart, and carried a quiet sense of luxury. But even more importantly, she wanted to create a home that feels warm, lived-in, and familiar; a place where modern comforts blend naturally with the character of a traditional Spanish home.

With the help of her sister, plenty of trial and error, and a great deal of attention to detail, almost every corner looks as though it belongs in a magazine. At the same time, nothing feels too precious to touch or move. The furniture is modular, practical, and meant to adapt to everyday life rather than dictate it. The apartment feels elegant without becoming formal, and comfortable without ever feeling cluttered.
Laberint’s signature palette is inspired by the island itself. The warm reds and browns echo Mallorca’s soil, sandstone, and beaches, translating the island into the space itself. In many ways, the apartment reflects the same contrast that Mallorca does – a destination known for luxury and exclusivity that, when approached with curiosity and intention, reveals itself to be deeply local, authentic, and humble.
The Living Space
As a coliving space, Laberint is relatively small in size, but remarkably spacious. Set inside a traditional Spanish family apartment of around 200 square meters, it still retains much of the feeling of the home it once was. Although the name Laberint comes from a much deeper meaning, the winding hallways and interconnected corners make the apartment feel a little like one in the most literal sense, too.
At its heart is a generous living area centered around beautiful coffee tables, warm wooden details, and classic Spanish accents. Just beside it sits the coworking area, with clean white desks and modern chairs that create an interesting contrast with the apartment’s more traditional character. Rather than feeling like an office placed inside a home, the two spaces feel as though they naturally belong together.
Coworking Area(s)
Laberint’s approach to amenities reflects its broader philosophy: work should feel like a natural and balanced part of life, not something separated from it.
For a four-bedroom coliving that comfortably accommodates up to eight people, the dedicated coworking space is surprisingly generous. With six workstations, spacious desks, adjustable lighting, air conditioning, and additional ventilation, it provides a focused environment for those who enjoy working alongside others.

At the same time, every bedroom includes a full-sized desk and an ergonomic office chair, making it just as easy to retreat into privacy whenever deeper concentration is needed.
And then all the in-between spaces naturally become places to work: the large kitchen table, the terrace, the cozy sofa, the stylish poufs in the living room, or even the balcony when there’s a pleasant breeze. Depending on your mood or your schedule, the apartment offers plenty of opportunities to change scenery without ever leaving home.
Laberint’s Approach to Community
Now let’s talk about what is perhaps the most important part of any coliving – the community.
Irene’s strategy with Laberint is built around two circles of community.
On the first level, she wants to build an intimate, slow-paced community of colivers who share the space, meals, and everyday life in the house, and develop the kind of familiar, curated relationships that exist both inside and outside Laberint’s walls.
This is the community that makes Laberint a home base – a safe, reliable home with familiar faces and routines that together create a warm, yet private environment for everyday life.
Inside the house, Laberint feels so far removed from a hostel or a hotel that it’s almost sacred. It’s exclusive in the best sense of the word, and truly what a person would want from their own home. This is where deeper, slower relationships are built, where we know each other’s work updates, family names, struggles, favorite foods or allergies, habits, and where we learn to live together, joke around, and simply share life.

On the second level, Laberint strives to gather people around its broader values – especially those centered on a more conscious and intentional way of traveling and experiencing Mallorca.
For this level, Irene envisions Laberint bringing people together through events, shared experiences, and meaningful connections with, again, a carefully selected group of people who know how to appreciate everyday Mediterranean life – its slower pace, its passions, its nourishing food, and its simple village traditions. People who want to chase sunsets, eat a sandwich on the beach, count goats by the roadside, and listen to stories about the history of the Mallorcan people.
For the broader community of locals, nomads, expats, visitors, or anyone drawn to this way of living, Laberint aims to offer a more authentic, local, and less flashy way to fall in love with the island and perhaps even with neighboring islands like Menorca or Ibiza.
And for Laberint’s coliving community, this creates a wider window into connection, friendships, and shared experiences with people who hold similar values, and it creates a safe way to meet others who have been thoughtfully brought together.

During our month-long stay, we were lucky enough to experience both of these circles firsthand. Well, lucky is not actually the right word, because the opportunities we had were only proof of Irene’s dedication and wanting to make this happen.
Inside the house, we grew genuinely fond of our housemates. We learned each other’s routines and little quirks, developed gentle, respectful relationships, and found ourselves constantly learning something new about each other’s lives. Outside the house, we joined community dinners, meetups, and outings that Irene bravely took it upon herself to organize, creating opportunities for new friendships and meaningful connections to happen naturally.
One authentic Mallorcan dinner with the extended community was enough for our small Laberint household to suddenly grow by three familiar faces. Within days, we were taking a road trip together, talking about career goals, opening up about our lives, and even exchanging professional contacts. Watching those connections happen so organically was perhaps the clearest example of what Irene is trying to build.

The symbiosis of these two circles of community creates a unique way to live, work, and travel, one that enriches not only those who want to experience coliving, but also those who simply appreciate the small things that make life meaningful. It takes intention, patience, and courage to build something like this, and fortunately, Irene seems more than willing to invest all three.
In this sense, through Laberint, Irene takes it upon herself to offer two things the island hasn’t really offered so far: a simple, thoughtfully curated coliving experience, and a more conscious, intentional way of visiting Mallorca. One serves the people who want to travel, work remotely, and genuinely experience the world and the places they pass through. The other serves Mallorca itself – by empowering local businesses, encouraging more sustainable ways of traveling, and, in its own small way, helping preserve the island from the effects of mass tourism.

As our month at Laberint comes to an end and our suitcase is waiting to be packed for our early flight tomorrow, I’m sitting at the desk in our Escolta room, writing these final words while looking out onto the sunny street below.
I’m feeling both grateful and a little bittersweet, knowing how many memories of Laberint and Mallorca we’ll be taking home with us. We’re incredibly thankful that our first experience of this island happened through Laberint. We don’t know what Mallorca would have felt like had we discovered it differently, but we do know that this experience made it richer, slower, and far more meaningful.
Laberint has only just opened its doors, yet it already feels like it has brought something the island was quietly waiting for. We have no doubt it will become one of those hidden gems in the Balearics for people looking not simply for a place to stay, but for a place they can temporarily call home.
